06.06 Careers in Government

Police Officer: -
There are many careers that serve our Government. Police sheriff are service men and women who are employed by the Local Governments to help save the lives of the people in our community.
They, as there title suggests, get people who commit crimes, though, this is their primary job they also: get people who do illegal stuff people from help people from other dangers. Police give back a lot to the community by helping people.
The police are a constituted body of persons empowered by the state to enforce the law, protect property, and limit civil disorder.

A Day in the Life of a Police Officer
Wake up in the morning on the day shift which in most cases the shift begins at 6 am and ends at 6 pm. they wake up spend a few minutes with your family if you have time you then begin to get ready for work. Put their badge and pins on their uniform shirt, put on uniform pants, a tee shirt of what ever color you are required to wear underneath uniform, put on bullet proof vest which could save their life that day, then put on their uniform shirt. From there they put on their equipment belt which some officers refer to as their Batman belt since it has all the tools that may protect and save their life or somebody else's life. This belt includes a variety of things such as Hand cuffs, spare Gloves, Gun, Taser, your Asp also known as Baton, extra Magazines for your weapon and Pepper spray. Law Enforcement Officer people may think that a law enforcement officer is a PIG. To Law Enforcement Officers that is a compliment because to Law Enforcement Officers PIG just means Pride Intelligence and Guts, all of which a law enforcement officer has. It takes pride in your job to put on the uniform every day, Intelligence because they have to learn to use their mouth in a good way by the way you speak and deal with every person you encounter it also takes intelligence to get the information they want from the person who has the information they need such as a criminal. Lastly, guts it takes guts when you are a Law Enforcement officer because anything can happen and your life may become in danger really quickly. They have to live in danger everyday. Risk of loosing their life anytime. Risk of loosing family children grandchildren everything just can vanish in one second just one mini second. Being Police officer is not easy as you think.

Training and Education Requirements:

Specific education guidelines for police are set by individual agencies following state or federal laws. City, county and state police officers are often only required to have a high school diploma or pass all General Educational Development (GED) examinations. Departments prefer applicants with some college experience, while law enforcement professionals employed by the federal government often have bachelor's degrees. Courses in foreign languages, criminal justice and political science might prove useful during a career as a police officer. In addition to formal education, applicants to police training academies often have military experience. Aspiring police officers must complete training programs specific to individual law enforcement agencies. Many of these programs last a minimum of 12 weeks and include substantial physical fitness components; all cadets in police training programs must meet minimum fitness and age standards. Cadets in police academies learn about self-defense, firearms operations and first aid. Training for police officers might also involve hostage negotiation, investigative techniques and traffic control. Some departments incorporate high-speed driving skills, conflict resolution tactics and crowd management in their basic cadet training programs.

Highlights:

What appeals to you about this career?
What appeals to me most about this career is that each moment spent on the job is a risk. The police officers put their safety aside to protect and save others. Without them we would have many crimes and everybody have to live in fear

Based on your research, would you recommend this career to a friend? Why or Why not?
Based on my research, I would indeed recommend this career to a friend. This job is for someone who wants to help & protect others and serve their community. While this job can be no means be compared to the army, navy, or Marines; Firefighters are still risking so much and yet, have the advantage of staying home in their community. While its kinda similar as army, navy, or marines just that they dont have to leave their family and friends they can do this job by staying in their community. But the risk is same.

How does this career contribute to society?
This career contributes to society by helping people and encouraging others to do the same; They raise awareness about the harm of fires and run drills with children/schools on what to do, where to go and how to react. Ultimately, how to protect yourself, put out crimes. Get criminals. and protect your community from the increasing crimes in everyday life. Just so people can live safely and peacefully

Voting

Why is voting necessary? Why should we vote? Here is why. Why so you can choose what is right and what is wrong. So you can choose your rights as being an citizen. Why let people choose what is right and what is wrong for you? why let them choose your rights and privileges. You have your voice come out and speak up: vote. In past there are so many men, women and underrepresented group who fight for the right to vote so they and you can deserve to choose and whats right for you. There are countries where people are still fighting for the right to vote. Vote in honor of those who can’t. If you want todays community to be better if feel that your rights should be fulfill than vote. Some adults think, “Young people are lazy, they don’t care about their communities, they don’t vote.” Prove them wrong. If you don’t vote, someone else will. Our government was designed for citizen participation, so if you don’t vote – other people are going to make the decisions for you. And then you just gonna sit at home and brag about the change happen. Every vote counts. In the 2004 Governor’s election proved how close things can get. Every vote counts. It’s your money. The county commissioners, governor, state treasurer, legislators, President and members of Congress you vote for will decide how to spend your money. Vote for those that agree with your point of view. This is your country You won’t always be young. Will social security be there when you need it? Remember this is your right speak up provide your thoughts and vote. This is your country.

Explain the procedures and requirements for voter registration in your state.
Florida is a closed primary state. If you wish to vote in a partisan primary election, you must be a registered voter in the party for which the primary is being held. However, if all candidates for an office have the same party affiliation and the winner will not have opposition in the general election, all voters, regardless of party affiliation may vote in the primary election for that office. In addition, all registered voters, regardless of party affiliation, can vote on issues and nonpartisan candidates in a primary election. You need to be Be a Citizen of the United States of America, Be a Florida resident, Be 18 years old, Adjudicated mentally incapacitated with respect to voting in Florida or any other state without having the right to vote restored, Provide your current and valid Florida driver’s license number or Florida identification card number. If you do not have a Florida driver’s license number or a Florida identification card number then you must provide the last four digits of your Social Security Number. If you do not have any of these items, you must write “none” in the box or field.

Explain the procedures for voting in your community
On Election Day, the polls are open from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. and are normally less busy during the mid-morning and mid-afternoon.
At the polls, you will be asked to provide a valid picture identification with signature. If you dont have signature on the identification card than they will ask for the more information in order to let you vote.
If you do not have the proper identification, you will be provided with a provisional ballot. Your provisional ballot will count if the signature on the provisional ballot envelope matches the signature on your voter registration application.

How does the product you created encourage citizens to vote?
Because if they dont vote they gonna loose their benefits they want be able to choose and other people gonna vote and make a change in community and gonna choose for you and you might like it or no u wont. so VOTE.

What obstacles to voting exist in your community?
Because florida is gulf coast and its kinda easy to get in. Many hispanics came illegal here and because they are not citizen of U.S. they cant vote and this is one of obstacles to voting exist in my community.

Would you recommend any changes in the voter registration procedures you researched? If so, what would you recommend?
Yes i will. That everyone should have the right to vote no matter what race or color they are and if they don’t have any papers and their illegal they should also have the right to vote beacuese we were all created equal, and beacuse their vote would make a big difference for this nation.

Based on your research, what do you think should be done to increase voter registration in the United States?
We should shorten the time of being citizen who came from other country or other part of the world. Or give them the permission to vote while having a green card.
